Keep the facts of the scene and the character’s need. Change the route. Direction is usually asking for an adjustment, not the destruction of everything you prepared.
If the note is “less aggressive,” do not simply lower the volume. Ask what action could still pursue the objective with less force. You might charm, reason, conceal, or wait them out. Translate result-based direction into something you can do. If the note is unclear, ask one concise question, then try it fully. Do not defend the previous take while the next one is waiting. Professional flexibility means you can hold onto the story, absorb new information, and produce another usable option. Your preparation should give you something to return to, not something you are afraid to disturb.
