Scene study develops the depth of the work. Audition technique teaches you to create a clear, usable version of that work within the limits of an audition. They overlap, but the conditions are different.
In scene study, you may have more rehearsal, a partner in the room, and time to investigate several choices. In an audition, the sides may arrive quickly, the reader may be off camera, the frame is fixed, and you still need to tell the story without showing every idea you had. Audition technique includes framing, eyelines, slate instructions, pacing your preparation, and adjusting without losing the scene. Technique cannot replace craft. A perfectly framed tape with no objective is still empty. Craft without audition skill can also get buried. Train both so the camera can actually see the work you prepared.
