Look for a room where you will work regularly, receive specific feedback, and understand what to try next. “Be more natural” is not a usable note. A useful teacher can help you identify what you want in the scene, what is in the way, and how your choice changes when the other actor affects you.
High standards are allowed. A teacher can expect preparation, punctuality, respect, and another honest pass after direction. What they should never do is make your value as a person part of the critique. No humiliation, hazing, personal attacks, or “breaking you down” to prove commitment. Our rule is simple: You have value, period. Your work, on the other hand, that we can improve.
Ask how often you will work, whether feedback is tied to observable choices, and how the room handles consent, physical contact, and classroom conduct. You need challenge without degradation, and support without being coddled.
